Youth-led coverage captures the people, ideas and organizations advancing sustainability across Richmond
What does sustainability look like in Richmond? YEE TV explored that question at the inaugural Sustainable Richmond Expo, held September 26 at the Richmond City Council Chambers.
Youth reporter Nasir Tullis spent the day talking with City leaders, Sustainability Pioneers, educators, businesses, community organizations and exhibitors about the work already underway—and the opportunities ahead.
The program takes viewers across a broad range of topics represented at the Expo, including renewable energy, clean transportation, recycling, education, workforce development, robotics and community-owned businesses.
Among those interviewed are Mayor Eduardo Martinez, Councilmember Claudia Jimenez, Commissioner Gloria Sewell-Murphy, former Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, Economic Development Commissioner Orrian Willis and Junne Garcia of the City of Richmond Economic Development Department, along with representatives from MCE, Richmond High FIRST Robotics Team 841/BioMechs, Cooperation Richmond, Richmond Pacific Railroad, All Things Good, Curious Explorers Academy and other participating organizations.
The coverage also highlights the role of young people at the Expo. In addition to YEE TV’s youth-led reporting, the Richmond High robotics team demonstrated the robot that earned the team second place statewide, bringing a hands-on example of youth innovation to the event.
